December | Humility

Humility is thinking of others before yourself.

Humility is feeling small in the grand scheme of things.

Valuable Verses

“He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:30

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:3-11

A Word of Encouragement

It’s December! The Christmas lists are being filled, trees are going up, every store you enter has a 10 track loop of Christmas songs they play, and we are shuffling from activity to activity. The season seems to bring endless chaos and it is easy to lose sight of the single most important reason for the season, and the life we as Christians have been called to.

We know how the story goes: most anyone could recite it, Jesus was born in a smelly stable and laid in a manger, and that was the night our Savior was born. We often miss a very important lesson when we read this story. Jesus, part of the Trinity, showed humility and became a human servant that night. Jesus, the Messiah, entered this earth in a stable to fulfill a promise to save God’s people.

Humility - thinking of others before yourself. We see in Jesus’ life, all over Scripture, how He always put others before Himself. Jesus did this even up to His death on the cross. This season, take some time to remember the humble Savior that came to give us life and full access to a relationship with our Heavenly Father.
